Andrea and Juan were married last May at the Courtyard on St. James.  Their wedding was awesome but since I'm a little behind on blogging I though I'd start with their engagement session first.  They selected Discovery Green downtown as the location for their shoot.  It was great and fit well with their style and personalities.  I always try to get my clients involved in the selection process for their engagement shoots, that way the session is a little more unique to them.  On a side note, andrea and Juan are both avid Rock Band players...my kind of clients!

Good stuff man! That is one happy looking couple. Of course, they have you as a photographer, so that helps!

Lately I've been thinking about some of the reasons I like shooting wedding photography. I've come to realize that it's "photographing people" that I'm really attracted to.  With weddings there are so many parts to the day (details, candids, scenery) which I love to, but I find that I enjoy doing portraits of my couples the most.  Then I got to thinking, "Maybe I should expand into doing more portraits" and that's how Akil Bennett Seniors came about!

I've been working on a website the past few weeks and it should be ready very soon!  Being a young photographer myself, it's pretty easy for me to relate to teenagers and I love the fun and energy they bring to their shoots!  I'm really looking forward to this.  A natural light downtown loft is currently in the works so I can do shoots inside in addition to the locations I already use around town.  We all know how hot it gets in Houston so having an air conditioned studio downtown will be nice!

I'm currently looking for 2010 graduates who would like to be senior reps for their schools.  If you're interested, email me at akilbennettphoto@mac.com to get more info!

I was introduced to Cypress Albums last year by Jose Villa when I attended his workshop in Mexico.  I've been meaning to get a sample album into my studio ever since and I've finally gotten around to it!  They're awesome...very modern, chic and clean.  I think this style book complements the types of images I like to take and I'm pumped that I'm offering this to my clients now!

This is an 8x8 Iris Engagement Sign-In Book.  Lots of clients get sign-in books for the guest to sign at the reception and its a really cool way to show off your engagement photos!

Jahnavi & Jonathan had one of the coolest weddings I've ever been to.  It was held at Jahnavi's parents house and the day was awesome.  What was really neat was that the bride and groom pretty much took care of all the decorations themselves!  They own a stylin' jewelry shop up in Austin so I wasn't surprised that everything turned out so creative.  Seriously these guys are two of the most interesting people you'd ever meet...check em' out!

This is a first...I'm blogging a photo from a wedding on the same day I shot it!  Today Collins Metu invited me to tag along to a wedding with him for some friends of his.  I love it when I get the chance to second shoot for other photographers I admire because it gives me a chance to see how they do things.  There's also no pressure on my end and I get to just be creative and have fun!

I got to spend a few minutes with Chevonte and James today during their portrait session and man..they worked it out!  I couldn't stop looking at this image after I took it today, I just love the natural expressions on their faces...so lifestyle!

***Edited To Add...After going through the images I thought I'd add a few more photos to this post ;)
